In the aftermath of George Floyd’s death, I made a pledge to offer wellness education, free of charge, to Black, Indigenous, and youth of color and to low-income communities.
Since then, I have been volunteering at a non-profit organization called Girls Inc. Girls Inc provides free mentorship to girls and 95% of the population they serve is BIPOC and/or low-income. Every few weeks, I get together with the girls online and we practice mindfulness, yoga, and connecting to our true self.
I have been so impressed by the women who work tirelessly to keep Girls Inc running as a space for girls to feel empowered and supported. And I wanted to share the link to donate to their efforts, if you have any extra resources to give. They need it and will use it for incredible things.
And lastly, let me say that it feels really good to follow through with true action. I’ve been guilty of supporting movements without any real giving, and of making excuses about not having the time, energy, or resources to offer. But as Muhammad Ali said: “Service to others is the rent you pay for your room here on Earth.” We can always find a little slice to give, and it’s always worth doing.
